Mount San Michele
Mount San Michele (342 m), located to the north-west of the present-day town centre, has been the site of ancient settlements, which can generally be traced back to prehistoric times, thanks to its peculiar geographic conformation. Despite a suggestion of a toponymic nature, which would recall a Longobard settlement on the hill, there is no documentation to justify its presence. On the plateau a little further down, the church dedicated to St Michael was erected in the 11th century and later enlarged. In the late Middle Ages, a rustic residential complex was built to the north of it for the use of the hermit keepers who took turns tending the church, now subordinate to the one further down the valley in honour of St John the Baptist, and which has been attested as the parish church of Cavaion since the 14th century. Archaeological excavations have brought to light the structure of the residential complex, consisting of several rooms and a courtyard with a Venetian-style well, made of a stone wall on the outside and a brick wall on the inside, from which water could be drawn.
WE DO NOT DISPERSE OUR WASTE
Let us see how long nature takes to dispose of our waste (ability of a chemical compound to decompose by
means of bacteria):
• Paper handkerchief: 8 weeks
• Daily newspaper: 6 weeks
• Cloth and wool: 8 10 months
• Coated paper magazine: 8 10 months
• Cigarette butt: 1 year and more
• Chewing gum: 5 years
• Aluminum can: 10 years
• Plastic bag: 500 years and more
• Synthetic fabric: 500 years and more
• Plastic bottle: almost 100 years
• Lighters: 100 years
• Tampons and nappies: 200 years
• Magnetic cards: 1000 years
• Glass bottles: indefinitely
Each planted tree allows around 700 kg of CO2 to be cut down over its lifetime. The electricity consumption of an office with 10 people alone generates in one year about 30,000 kg of CO2, e.g. carbon dioxide, the main polluter. These emissions can be neutralised by planting 45 trees. A tree is the best defense against pollution.

The publication of the historical-archaeological information has been authorized by the Superintendence SABAP VR-RO-VI
The CTG El Preon APS Group has decided to dedicate this route among nature, history and tradition to the memory of one of the group's founding members, Romano Giacomelli, a tireless supporter of Cavaionese culture and education, who passed away in 2022.
